Environmental Protection Administration has officially upgraded to Ministry of Environment on Aug 22. Carbon fee becomes a focused issue, and it will be levied starting 2025 based on the Carbon Footprint Verification survey results in 2024, announced by Tsai Ling-yi, the current director of Climate Change Agency of Ministry of Environment. She confirmed that due to legal limitations, the carbon fee planned to be implemented in 2024 and to be levied in 2025.

Under the Ministry of Environment, the Climate Change Agency was also inaugurated on the same day. Tsai further stated that the current targets for carbon fee collection are primarily manufacturing and power companies with a carbon emission of around 25,000 tons, approximately 500 companies in total. It is estimated that the draft proposals for self-reduction methods, target-setting methods, carbon fee levy methods, and committee for carbon fee review will be later announced by the end of 2023.
