CSBC Indigenous Defense Submarine (IDS) Completes Float-On Operation

CSBC Corporation Taiwan (hereinafter referred to as CSBC) completed the "Prototype IDS Float-On Test Operation" on February 27, successfully moving the prototype submarine from our enclosed assembly factory to the dry dock.
The Indigenous Defense Submarine (IDS), also known as the Hai Kun Project (SS-711), is a plan for domestically built defense submarines. The float-on operation took place in the waters of Kaohsiung Port. It was led by Wen-Lon Cheng, the Chairman of CSBC Corporation, Taiwan, and Shu-Kuang Huang, the original convener of the Hai Kun Project team. After 7 hours, the team confirmed that the first-stage watertightness performance, weight control, stability, and compartment pressure loads met the design's expected standards.

During the float-on phase, CSBC and the Hai Kun project team coordinated various aspects, including renting Giant Heavy Machinery Service's multi-functional heavy lift vehicle, Jong Shyn Shipbuilding's No. 8 floating dock, and several tugboats in the port area. Naval support was requested for tugboats, Marine Corps patrol boats, and underwater operation team divers, with the Harbor Police Bureau also mobilizing patrol boats. Coordination with the Taiwan International Ports Corporation (TIPC) for channel control was ensured, while units such as the Siaogang Precinct, China Steel, CPC, Taipower, and YangMing Marine Transport assisted in port area security. By pooling resources from all sectors, the float-on operation proceeded smoothly!
CSBC will continue to adjust power systems such as batteries and main engines in the dry dock, followed by Harbor Acceptance Trials (HAT), before entering the next stage of the Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT).
