The fourth National Oceans Day Taiwan event, which began on June 8th, is a three-day spectacular event held at the Kaohsiung Music Center. On the opening day, President Ing-Wen Tsai attended the celebration ceremony in person, along with many government officials, including Bi-Ling Kuan, Minister of the Ocean Affairs Council (OAC), and Chi-Mai Chen, Mayor of Kaohsiung City, as well as domestic and foreign dignitaries, including 14 ambassadors and representatives from embassies and representative offices in Taiwan.

President Tsai stated that the government has been promoting the "Saluting the Sea" policy and recently completed the amendment of the "Marine Pollution Control Act." The maximum fine for marine pollution has been increased from 1.5 million to 100 million TWD, and a marine pollution control fee has been introduced.

At the same time, the government has also passed legislation to support the development of the maritime industry, encourage citizens to engage in marine activities, and provide corresponding guidance, assistance, incentives, and subsidies.

President Tsai expressed her gratitude to Minister Kuan and the colleagues of the Council for their efforts in taking an important step in safeguarding the ocean. She emphasized that the ocean connects Taiwan and the world. She called on people who enjoy marine activities to visit Taiwan, hoping that Kaohsiung would become an important ocean city. Mayor Chen also expressed that Taiwan's indigenous people have deep cultural, historical, security, and ocean sustainability connections with South Pacific allies, witnessing together that Kaohsiung, as the "Maritime Capital," possesses a diverse and brilliant marine culture. Minister Kuan expressed gratitude to various sectors in her welcome speech and emphasized the responsibility and commitment of the Ocean Affairs Council. Despite the limited manpower of the council, the abundant maritime resources and selfless dedication of the people nationwide have become a force for protecting the ocean.

The National Oceans Day peaked on June 10th with a pop concert based on the theme of "Planet of Oceans, Rising into the Mainstream." It invited many talented and creative Taiwanese young generation artists such as DaiXiaojun, WuWenfang, 理想混蛋 , OZONE, and SunShengshi to add vitality and a festive atmosphere to the Oceans Day celebration.
