Guantang LNG Terminal Completes Early Gas Supply Test Achieves Output Capacity of 900 Tons per Hour
Gas supply test at Guantang LNG Terminal ahead of schedule successfully achieves output capacity of 900 tons per hour.
The testing and commissioning of CPC Taiwan's Guantang LNG Terminal is progressing ahead of schedule. On June 6, 2025, the terminal successfully completed a test of its natural gas output capacity at 900 tons per hour. This milestone was reached one week earlier than originally planned, demonstrating CPC's commitment to supporting the government's domestic energy transition policies and ensuring a stable gas supply.
CPC stated that since the arrival of the first LNG carrier on April 1, the Guantang Terminal began test operations and achieved its initial gas output target ahead of schedule on April 22. By May 6, it was steadily supplying Taipower's Datan Power Plant with 200 tons of natural gas per hour. As testing progressed, the terminal achieved its designed maximum output capacity of 900 tons per hour on June 6, a full week earlier than expected. CPC will now move forward with system integration and overall process reliability tests to meet the gas demand of Taipower's Datan units 7 to 9 and other users in northern Taiwan, further enhancing CPC's overall gas supply resilience.
In alignment with the government's 2050 net-zero transition policy and the goals of "expanding renewables, increasing natural gas, and reducing coal," CPC is committed to expanding and stabilizing the domestic natural gas supply. In the future, Taiwan's three LNG terminals, Guantang in the north, Taichung in central Taiwan, and Yungan in the south, will operate in a coordinated regional supply model with mutual backup capacity to fully meet the nation's growing natural gas demand.
