Hai Long Offshore Wind Farm Project Steadily Advancing Taiwan's Energy Transformation
The Hai Long Offshore Wind Farm Project has successfully procured 63 domestically manufactured foundation piles from CSBC Corporation Taiwan this year. Additionally, CDWE's Green Jade has completed the installation of 37 wind turbine foundations and the offshore substation for the Hai Long 2 project.
The Hai Long Offshore Wind Farm Project (hereinafter referred to as the "Hai Long Project") announced the commencement of offshore construction earlier this year (2024) and has since achieved several significant milestones. These include the successful completion and delivery of key wind farm components, the installation of all subsea foundations and the offshore substation for the Hai Long 2 project, as well as the completion of the subsea foundation installation for the offshore substation in the Hai Long 3 project. The Hai Long Project continues to progress steadily as scheduled, laying a solid foundation for Taiwan's energy transition and sustainable future.
Following the groundbreaking and blessing ceremony held in April this year to mark the official launch of offshore construction, the Hai Long Project has steadily advanced according to plan. Moving forward, the project team will expedite efforts to complete the transportation and installation of the offshore substation for Hai Long 3 in 2025, the installation of wind turbines for Hai Long 2, and further subsea foundation installations for Hai Long 3. Additionally, the project will carry out crucial tasks such as submarine cable installation and testing. Hai Long 2’s construction is expected to conclude by the end of 2025, while the construction of the Hai Long 3 wind farm is anticipated to be completed in 2026.
The offshore substation installation for the Hai Long 2 project has been completed. The transportation and installation of the offshore substation for the Hai Long 3 project are scheduled to be progressively completed by 2025.
Tim Kittelhake, CEO of the Hai Long Offshore Wind Farm Project, stated: "I am delighted to see the wind farm construction progressing on schedule. With steadfast support from the government, strong partnerships with contractors, a welcoming local community, and a robust project team, the Hai Long Project will continue to uphold the highest standards of environmental, health, and safety practices. We are committed to completing the wind farm construction on time and to the highest quality. We aim to commence grid connection and power generation in 2025 and 2026, respectively, establishing Hai Long as the largest offshore wind farm in Taiwan and the Asia-Pacific region, significantly contributing to Taiwan's energy transition goals."
The local supply chain has demonstrated exceptional technical capabilities, delivering impressive results in collaboration with the Hai Long Project. CSBC Corporation Taiwan successfully completed and delivered 63 domestically manufactured monopiles to the Hai Long Project this year. Its subsidiary, CSBC-DEME Wind Engineering Co., Ltd. (CDWE), deployed the Taiwan-flagged vessel "Green Jade" to complete the installation of 37 subsea foundations and the offshore substation for the Hai Long 2 offshore wind farm, as well as the subsea foundation installation for the offshore substation of Hai Long 3. Furthermore, Siemens Gamesa, the project's wind turbine supplier, announced the completion of the first locally assembled 14 MW turbine nacelle in November, marking a historic milestone for Taiwan’s offshore wind power industry.
The Hai Long Project has deeply engaged with local communities and participated in charitable activities. In July this year, the project was invited to serve as a lecturer for the "2024 Tainan Environmental Education Personnel Training Course," sharing insights into the offshore wind power industry and project progress with over 100 teachers, inspiring a new generation of renewable energy professionals. Additionally, the Hai Long Project donates seafood from Changhua and Penghu regions to local charities annually and has supported the Show Chwan Health Care System's Dream Fulfillment Project in Changhua for three consecutive years, providing donations and participating in volunteer activities, continuing to bring positive energy to society.
Key components of the Hai Long Project, including subsea foundations, have been successfully completed and delivered on schedule.
