The Hai Long Project Officially Announced the launch of 14 MW Production Line with Siemens Gamesa at the Taichung Nacelle Factory

The Hai Long offshore wind power project (hereinafter referred to as the Hai Long project) announced today (15th) the official opening of its nacelle factory in Taichung, in collaboration with Siemens Gamesa. This partnership involves the expansion of Siemens Gamesa's nacelle assembly plant in Taichung, dedicated to producing 14 MW wind turbines for the Hai Long wind farm. The completed nacelle factory is expected to begin supplying turbines for the Hai Long wind farm in the second quarter of 2025, with offshore installation scheduled to commence in the same year.
The Hai Long project signed a turbine supply and maintenance service agreement with Siemens Gamesa in October 2022. This agreement represents the largest manufacturing contract within the Hai Long project and has facilitated the expansion of Siemens Gamesa's nacelle factory in Taiwan, where the assembly of the first nacelle has already begun. The expansion of the nacelle assembly plant in Taichung was inaugurated with a groundbreaking ceremony in September 2022, transforming the production line into a complete assembly line for nacelle hubs and backend components. After more than a year of construction, the expansion project is now complete and the production line is operational. This facility assembles over 10,000 wind turbine components, and its factory area and workforce have tripled in size. This is Siemens Gamesa’s first nacelle factory established outside of Europe and currently the largest offshore wind turbine nacelle factory in Taiwan and the Asia-Pacific region.

Tim Kittelhake, CEO of the Hai Long Project
Tim Kittelhake, CEO of the Hai Long project, stated, "With the financing of the Hai Long project secured and the offshore engineering construction phase underway, we have completed several critical offshore tasks, including the installation of the offshore substation for the Hai Long 2 wind farm and the foundation installation for the Hai Long 3 wind farm. To date, we have completed piling operations for a total of 108 foundations pin piles at 36 turbine locations. The launch of Siemens Gamesa’s nacelle production line today marks another significant milestone for this project. We plan to begin turbine installation in the second quarter of next year, with the completion of the Hai Long 2 wind farm expected by the end of this year and the Hai Long 3 wind farm by 2026. We are confident in our ability to complete the wind farms on schedule and to the highest environmental and safety standards, ensuring safe project execution."
Vinod Philip, Member of Executive Board of Siemens Energy AG, Executive Vice President of Wind Power, remarked during his first visit to the Asia-Pacific region since taking over Siemens Gamesa’s wind energy business, "The Taichung nacelle factory is a testament to our commitment to the Asia-Pacific region. As of today, over 70% of the operational offshore wind turbines in the Taiwan Strait are supplied by Siemens Gamesa. We also look forward to the expanded Taichung nacelle factory supporting the Hai Long offshore wind project with the 14 MW turbines."
Niels Steenberg, Chairman and managing Director of Siemens Gamesa's Offshore Wind Development in the Asia-Pacific region, noted, "Today is a significant milestone for both Siemens Gamesa and Taiwan's offshore wind energy industry. The official opening of the Taichung nacelle factory underscores our ongoing commitment to local manufacturing, technology transfer, and talent development. This facility not only lays an important foundation for energy transition but also positions Taiwan as a hub for the offshore wind energy industry in the Asia-Pacific region."
The Hai Long project has a total installed capacity exceeding 1 GW, with plans to connect to the grid in phases between 2025 and 2026. Once operational, it will become Taiwan's largest single offshore wind development project, contributing to Taiwan's renewable energy target of 15 GW by 2026 to 2035.

About the Hai Long Project
The Hai Long offshore wind project is located approximately 45~70 kilometers off the coast of Changhua, in water depths of about 35~55 meters. It comprises the Hai Long 2 and Hai Long 3 wind farms, developed in partnership by Mitsui & Co., Ltd. of Japan, Northland Power Inc., a Canadian independent energy developer, and Gentari of Malaysia. With a total installed capacity exceeding 1 GW, once operational, the Hai Long project will provide stable and clean green energy for over one million households in Taiwan.
