On August 15th, the Hai Long Offshore Wind Project ( "Hai Long") announced the successful completion and delivery of 21 three-legged jacket foundations by local supplier Century Wind Power Co., Ltd. ("Century Wind Power"). This marks the first project to complete assembly operations since Century Wind Power commissioned its newly built "Twin Tower" heavy-lifting facility, representing a key milestone in the localization of Taiwan's offshore wind industry.

The delivered jacket foundations are the largest and heaviest offshore wind structures ever fabricated in Taiwan, each standing over 90 meters tall and weighing up to 2,000 metric tons—equivalent to the combined weight of approximately 1,000 passenger cars. These foundations not only demonstrate a breakthrough in manufacturing scale, but also marks the first successful integration of an advanced hydraulic pile gripper system into the fabrication process by Taiwan's domestic supply chain.

Hydraulic pile gripper system has known for its structural complexity, limited welding access, and high load-bearing requirements—plays a critical role in subsea installation by ensuring alignment and operational stability, embodying a high degree of technical sophistication. Through international knowledge transfer, refined engineering design, precise process control, specialized workforce training, and on-site problem-solving capability, Hai Long supported Century Wind Power in successfully accelerating its technical learning curve, completing this highly complex manufacturing process, achieving localization objectives, and demonstrating the exceptional capabilities of Taiwan's domestic teams.

Since the signing of the foundations fabrication contract in late 2022, Hai Long and Century Wind Power have maintained close collaboration. A ground-breaking ceremony was held in May 2023, and during the fabrication phase, Hai Long deployed over 20 personnel on-site to supported Century Wind Power across various functions, including production management, quality assurance, HSE (health, safety, and environment), scheduling, welding and coating inspection, engineering, and project coordination, contributing to the continuous enhancement of local capabilities.

Multiple entities under Century Group were involved in foundations fabrication for Hai Long, including Century Wind Power at the Taipei Port Plant, Century Iron and Steel at the Guanyin and Yunlin plants, and Century Huaxin Wind Energy, along with their local subcontractors. At peak production, Century Wind Power deployed a workforce of 1,400, underscoring the robust execution capacity of the local supply chain.

The foundations were assembled using the "Twin Tower," the world's first outdoor lifting facility purpose-built for the fabrication of ultra-large offshore wind substructures for deep-water applications. This demonstrates not only Taiwan's absorption of global best practices, but also its growing capacity for innovation and equipment development.

Wen-Hsiang Lai, Chairman of Century Group, stated: "We sincerely thank the Hai Long for their consistent support and encouragement to the local supply chain during this phase. With their partnership, we were able to accomplish this critical milestone and take another bold step in shaping the future of Taiwan's offshore wind industry."

Tim Kittelhake, CEO and Project Director of Hai Long, commented: "Our collaboration with Century Wind Power has been pivotal to the project's advancement, underscoring the capability of Taiwan's local supply chain to deliver reliably and meet the nation's offshore wind growth targets, while continuing to attract investment for the execution of complex, large-scale developments."

In June 2025, Hai Long announced the successful grid connection of green electricity generated by its first turbine to the Taipower's electricity grid. The project is scheduled to achieve full grid connection of all turbines by 2026, at which point it will become Taiwan's first offshore wind farm exceeding 1 GW in capacity, supplying clean energy to more than one million households.
