|Green Power Fukaura Wind Farm Commences Commercial Operation
Green Power Fukaura LLC, established in October 2019, is a Special Purpose Company (SPC) under Green Power Investment Co., Ltd. (GPI). Its Fukaura Wind Farm began commercial operation on February 3rd, marking GPI's 7th developed project.
Located in Fukaura Town, Nishitsugaru District, Aomori Prefecture, the wind farm employs 19 of 4,200 KW turbines manufactured by GE Vernova International LLC, with a total output of 79,800 KW. This capacity is equivalent to supplying approximately 52,000 typical households (about 3,000 households in Fukaura Town) and is expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 91,000 tons annually. All generated electricity will be sold to Tohoku Electric Power Co., Inc. through the Kitatsugaru Substation in Tsuruta Town.

The latest report from RenewableUK indicates a significant potential increase in the UK's offshore wind power capacity through upcoming government Contracts for Difference (CFD) auctions. According to the report, a total of 14 offshore wind projects qualify for auction, with a potential capacity of up to 10.3 GW, surpassing previous records.
Offshore wind projects in the UK contribute 14.7 GW of renewable energy electricity to the country. Globally, offshore wind capacity has reached 70 GW, with the UK ranking second to China.
|Sumitomo Commits to £350m Highlands Cable Factory as Funding Package Agreed
Japan's Sumitomo has committed to building a £350m cable factory in the Highlands after agreeing a funding package from the Scottish Government. Funding of £24.5m has been approved for the factory, expected to create around 330 jobs over the next 10 years.
A report from the Subsidy Advice Unit published last year revealed that £24.5m was the minimum figure Sumitomo would accept to build the facility, and represents less than 10% of its capital commitments. Being built by Sumitomo Electric, a subsidiary of the conglomerate, the project is expected to reduce lead times for the supply of those cables and strengthen energy security.
