Ørsted Continues to Invest in the Greater Changhua Offshore Wind Farm to Drive Taiwan's Green Economic Growth

  Taiwan's renewable energy industry has attracted foreign investment. Foreign investment in Taiwan's renewable energy industry reached a new height in 2022, with a total investment amount of NTD 399 billion. One of the largest cases of foreign investment last year was the Greater Changhua offshore wind farm, with approved funding exceeding NT$105.6 billion, accounting for a quarter of the total approved investment and being the largest investment in the offshore wind power industry.

  Ørsted celebrated the final investment decision for the 920MW Greater Changhua Phase 2 and Northwest offshore wind farm during a tea party on 15th May 2023. This large-scale offshore wind farm will contribute to Taiwan's green energy transition and support TSMC in achieving its decarbonization goals by purchasing all the electricity generated by the wind farm for 20 years. Ørsted stated its commitment to continue developing, constructing, and operating offshore wind farms in Taiwan, as well as nurturing talent, improving efficiency, and introducing innovative technologies to achieve the production of green energy in harmony with the natural environment.

  Per Mejnert Kristensen, the Asia Pacific President of Ørsted, expressed the company's commitment to creating long-term value through the continuous development, construction, and operation of offshore wind farms in Taiwan. The positive final investment decision for the Greater Changhua Phase 2 and Northwest offshore wind farm demonstrates their determination to build large-scale offshore wind farms. Ørsted is dedicated to nurturing local talent, ensuring optimal performance of the wind farms, and introducing innovative technologies to achieve the coexistence of green energy production and the natural environment. 

  J.K. Lin, Senior Vice President of Information Technology and Materials Management & Risk Management at TSMC, expressed delight in the commencement of construction of this offshore wind farm, which will contribute to Taiwan's energy transition and support TSMC in its pursuit of green manufacturing and achieving net-zero emissions goals.
