Formosa 2 Offshore Wind Farm Participates in Baishatun Mazu Pilgrimage to Pray for Favorable Weather and Deepen Local Connections
Located off the coast of Miaoli, Formosa 2 Offshore Wind Farm is the first project under Taiwan's second phase of offshore wind development to reach commercial operation. Since September 2023, it has been steadily supplying clean, green electricity to 380,000 households in Taiwan. With a total installed capacity of 376 MW and an annual generation of over 1,300 GWh, it helps reduce carbon emissions by 645,000 metric tons per year, marking a significant milestone in Taiwan's renewable energy journey.
This year, Formosa 2 Offshore Wind Farm participated for the first time in the Baishatun Mazu Pilgrimage, the most iconic religious and cultural event in Miaoli. To pray for favorable weather and a blessed journey, Formosa 2 launched the "Wind and Rain Blessing Vehicle" and distributed 200 large blessing gift packs to support and protect the pilgrims. Formosa 2 also collected wishes from 400 participants, embodying the vision of "Walking with Green Energy, Safeguarding the Future."
Blessing Vehicle and Gift Packs Escort Pilgrims for a Safe Journey
To show its support and appreciation for the pilgrims' devotion and effort, Formosa 2 prepared the "Wind and Rain Blessing Vehicle" and 200 blessing gift packs. Formosa 2 CEO Nuta Chen led the local operations team participating and offering full support. The 2025 Baishatun Mazu Pilgrimage officially began on May 1, drawing more than 320,000 participants. The route starts from Gongtian Temple in Baishatun, Tongxiao Township, Miaoli County, passes through Changhua, and ends at Chaotian Temple in Beigang, Yunlin County—spanning nearly 400 kilometers and showcasing the power of faith. The blessing vehicle traveled southward with the procession, collecting over 400 wish cards that reflected the pilgrims' collective hopes for safety and smooth journeys. The "Blessing Gift Pack" was designed around the theme of "Calm Wind, Harmony Rain" and included a reusable tote bag, cooling fan, glowing safety wristband for nighttime visibility, waterproof foldable picnic mat, Baishatun Mazu pilgrimage commemorative charm, and a copy of the "Taiwan Seafood Guide"—offering both practicality and environmental consciousness to accompany pilgrims day and night. Through this effort, Formosa 2 aims to strengthen its ties with local communities and realize its long-term operational vision of mutual prosperity and promoting green energy.
CEO Nuta Chen Leads Formosa 2 Team in Cultural Participation
CEO Nuta Chen said: "As a pioneer of offshore wind power in Taiwan, Formosa 2 is committed to long-term local operations and strives to set an industry benchmark. Participating in the Baishatun Mazu Pilgrimage is an important step in honoring local culture and bringing our vision of green energy walking hand-in-hand with faith into reality. The Formosa 2 Wind Farm, located off the coast of Miaoli, has long provided Taiwan with stable, clean energy. Moving forward, Formosa 2 will continue to support local events, give back to the community, and deepen mutual trust and connection with local residents."
Formosa 2 Offshore Wind Promotes Local Cultural Sustainability and Operational Knowledge Transfer
Beyond religious events, Formosa 2 has also been actively promoting localization. It not only adopts international standards but also integrates offshore wind operation experience into Taiwan and nurtures local talent. The company works closely with local groups and schools in Houlong and Zhunan, Miaoli County, to enhance public awareness and participation in green energy. Additionally, Formosa 2 collaborates with local fisheries to train fishermen as inspection technicians, supporting the transformation of the fishing industry. It has also donated life jackets and introduced electronic chart systems to improve maritime communication and enhance the safety of fishing operations.
Through these concrete actions, Formosa 2 hopes that the development of offshore wind power will not only provide Taiwan with a continuous supply of clean energy but also align closely with local culture and industries, achieving sustainable development and creating a greener future together.
