|Germany Achieves Maximum Reduction in Carbon Emissions
In 2023, Germany saw a significant 10.1% reduction in total greenhouse gas emissions, marking the most significant annual decrease since 1990. This reduction can be partly attributed to adjustments in energy structure and an increase in the proportion of renewable energy sources. However, emissions from transportation still fail to meet reduction standards, while the construction sector exceeds legally permitted emission levels. The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) urges accelerating electric vehicle adoption and eliminating subsidies harmful to the climate. Although some reductions stem from industrial production cuts, they also reflect the impact of economic and political crises.

|UK to Construct Gas Power Plant Secures Carbon Capture Facility Contract
The UK is taking a significant step forward in its plan to build a gas power plant with carbon capture technology, involving joint ventures with BP, TotalEnergies SE, and Norway's Equinor. This initiative forms part of the UK government's goal to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. With an estimated project cost of around £4 billion, the facility aims to capture up to 2 million tons of carbon dioxide annually and store it underground.

|Taiwan Government Procurement of Carbon Emission Data Database to Launch in June & Encouraging Businesses Voluntary Registration
The Public Construction Commission (PCC), Executive Yuan, will establish a carbon emission data database in June, encouraging voluntary registration by government procurement entities to lead by example in carbon reduction efforts. The initial phase of the database will focus on financial procurement targets, emphasizing a voluntary approach during the trial period. PCC indicates plans to incentivize government procurement of products verified for their carbon footprint. It also considers including low-carbon design and materials as bonus criteria for the Public Construction Commission Golden Quality Award.
