HDRE Announces Further Expansion in Australia with 111MW Energy Storage Project Set for August Launch
HD Renewable Energy (HDRE) has acquired the 111 MW Templers energy storage project in South Australia
through investment via the ZEBRE platform, with grid connection and operation scheduled for August this year.
On May 8, international smart energy leader HD Renewable Energy (HDRE) convened a board meeting and approved an investment of approximately NT$1.6 billion (AUD 8 million) by its Australian asset platform, ZEBRE, to acquire the under-construction Templers battery energy storage system in South Australia. With an installed capacity of 111 MW (battery rated capacity of 330 MWh), the project will become the second-largest energy storage site in South Australia once operational, further solidifying HDRE's foundation in the Australian electricity market.
The Templers project has garnered strong support from the local government and community, and a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA) has been signed with the South Australian government and local electricity retailers. This agreement ensures the project will have a stable and long-term revenue structure. Final grid connection tests are currently underway, and the system is expected to go online in August 2025. Once operational, it will play a critical role in enhancing grid stability and managing peak electricity demand as South Australia's second-largest energy storage system.
The ZEBRE platform, jointly established by HDRE and Australian energy company ZEN Energy, focuses on investment and asset management in the solar and energy storage sectors, with a development target of 1.4 GW in total capacity. Its first investment project, the Solar River hybrid solar and storage project, has secured key development permits and is in the final stage of the grid connection application process. The project includes 256 MW of storage and 210 MW of solar capacity.
As ZEBRE continues to expand its presence in the Australian market, HDRE will accelerate the local energy transition and economic development while simultaneously strengthening its global business momentum and steadily enhancing overseas operations.
