| South Korea Poised to Become Reactor Supplier for Multiple Countries
South Korea is set to fulfill its ambition of exporting nuclear power technology and becoming a reactor supplier for several countries. State-owned Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Co. (KHNP) was selected last week to build 2 multibillion-dollar reactors in the Czech Republic, surpassing its competitors. Once finalized, this project could position South Korea to build reactors in Europe. KHNP is also conducting a feasibility study for a nuclear plant in the Netherlands, while Sweden's Vattenfall AB is considering using Korean technology. Additionally, South Korea is in talks to supply reactors to the U.K., Poland, and other nations, putting it on track to achieve the government's goal of exporting ten units by 2030.
|Scientists Warn of the Impact of Climate Change Accelerating Annual Surface Temperature in Russia
Climate change significantly impacts Russia, with its territory warming nearly twice the global rate. Sergey Semenov, Scientific Director of the Institute of Global Climate and Ecology in Russia, stated that from 1976 to 2020, the global average annual surface temperature (both land and sea) increased by 0.179 degrees Celsius per decade. In contrast, Russia's warming rate reached 0.51 degrees Celsius per decade. The Taymyr Peninsula is the fastest-warming region, with average temperatures rising by 0.8 to 1.2 degrees Celsius over the past decade. In 2023, 71 extremely hot days were recorded, indicating increased extreme weather events.
