|Breakthrough success for Green Volt floating windfarm in UK renewable power auction
The Green Volt project, a collaboration between Flotation Energy and Vårgrønn, has won a 15-year Contract for Difference from the United Kingdom Government. This landmark floating offshore wind project will help drive offshore turbines into areas with higher wind speeds. Stephen Bull, CEO of Vårgrønn, expressed that the contract affirms the United Kingdom's confidence in their plan to develop Europe's largest floating offshore windfarm. Green Volt will drive investment in port infrastructure and bolster the floating wind sector, stimulating economic growth and technological advancements.
Nicol Stephen, CEO of Flotation Energy, highlighted that Green Volt, a £2.5 billion project located 80 km off the Northeast Scotland coast, will generate over 2,800 jobs during its construction. The windfarm will supply renewable electricity to the United Kingdom's grid and nearby oil and gas platforms, marking a significant milestone towards the country's 2030 goal of 5GW of floating offshore wind power.
