Gyeonggi-do Province has announced expanded subsidies to encourage the replacement of old diesel vehicles with eco-friendly models, as part of efforts to cut Particulate Matter (PM) emissions and achieve carbon neutrality. Residents who scrap diesel cars rated grade 4–5 and purchase an electric or hydrogen passenger or freight vehicle will receive an additional provincial subsidy of KRW 1 million.

The program, running until December 12, allocates KRW 3.5 billion this year to accelerate the transition to clean vehicles. In the first half of the year, approximately 11,793 outdated diesel vehicles were scrapped, and the province aims to convert 350 of them into eco-friendly alternatives by year’s end. Notably, eligibility has been expanded from passenger cars to also include freight vehicles.

Applicants must purchase a vehicle through an authorized manufacturer or importer, complete the subsidy application, and have the company submit documentation to the provincial office. Subsidies are granted on a first-come, first-served basis, with early closure possible once the budget is exhausted.
