The Doosan Wind Power Center (WPC) in Jeju has emerged as South Korea's first offshore wind power control center, operating a 24/7 remote monitoring system that oversees more than 70 percent of the nation's offshore wind capacity. Through real-time analysis of turbine vibration, gearbox temperature, and power-generation patterns, the center detects early signs of equipment failure, enabling preventive maintenance and operational stability.

Located in Ora-dong, Jeju City, the two-story facility was completed in September and serves as a centralized hub for remotely supporting offshore wind turbines supplied by Doosan Enerbility. Of the company's total domestic offshore wind installations (amounting to 347.5 MW) the WPC currently monitors 80 turbines across 11 sites, representing 240 MW. This effectively places most of Korea's offshore wind assets under a single control network.

At the core of operations is Doosan WindLink, the company's proprietary remote monitoring platform. The system continuously analyzes converter temperature, electrical current, and vibration data to assess turbine conditions. Collected data is transmitted to Doosan's data centers in Changwon and Yongin, where it is accumulated as big data and further processed using artificial intelligence models.

Building on these data assets, the WPC produces monthly vibration analysis reports and is accelerating the development of AI-based power generation forecasting tools, targeted for completion by mid-2026. As the government plans to expand offshore wind capacity to 25 GW by 2035, the role of the WPC as the "eyes and brain" of Korea's offshore wind sector is expected to grow significantly.

The center is staffed by 11 professionals working in rotating shifts, many of whom are graduates of Jeju National University, underscoring its contribution to local employment. With infrastructure already in place to support overseas operations, Doosan Enerbility is preparing to extend WPC's remote monitoring capabilities to offshore wind projects in Japan and Southeast Asia.
