Ørsted Taiwan Launches "Sustainable Innovation Accelerator" Nurturing Talents for Wind Industry

Ørsted launched the "Sustainable Innovation Accelerator (SIA)" competition today (18) in collaboration with the Metal Industries Research & Development Centre (MIRDC). The competition seeks innovative proposals related to the offshore wind industry. Teams that qualify will receive activation funds and one-on-one guidance from experts in the wind energy sector to optimize their proposals. The winning team can receive a maximum prize of NTD 500,000. Submissions are open from now until April 30.

Christy Wang, Chairperson at Ørsted Taiwan, stated, "Since 2019, Ørsted has awarded Green Energy Scholarships for 4 consecutive years, supporting 36 outstanding students to engage in green energy industry and academic research. This year, we further upgrade by launching the Sustainable Innovation Accelerator, broadening eligibility and participation, and encouraging high school and college (including master's and doctoral programs) student groups and individuals from the community to propose innovative ideas related to wind farm technology and sustainability. Ørsted will provide substantial resources and professional guidance to assist in realizing excellent award-winning proposals, continually driving green energy innovation, and providing growth momentum for Taiwan's wind power industry."

Yung-Hsiang Lai, President of MIRDC, mentioned, "MIRDC has been actively promoting the development of Taiwan's offshore wind power industry, establishing independent industry technology, and research and development capabilities. We believe that the competition's stimulation will contribute to cultivating outstanding talent and accumulating related technologies and practical experience. It will further assist in the sustainable development of Taiwan's offshore wind power industry."

The "Sustainable Innovation Accelerator" requires teams of 2-5 members, and proposals allow focus on innovative technologies and services related to the life cycle of wind farms, including development, construction, and operation. Proposals can also address how to make the offshore wind industry more sustainable from social, economic, and environmental perspectives.

The program will be conducted in 4 stages: ­
Registration period: Now until April 30, 2024
Preliminary results: End of May 2024
Professional coaching: July-August 2024
Final award: October 2024
