Taipower 2024 Environmental Month Presentation: Premiering the Largest-Scale Bat Research
Taipower recently held its 2024 Environmental Month Presentation, reviewing the environmental achievements of 2023. Taipower's own fossil fuel unit's pollutants emission intensity has decreased by nearly 70% since 2016, and its carbon emission intensity (CO2 emissions per kWh) has also decreased by 8%.

Completion and Grid Connection of 900 MW Greater Changhua 1 & 2a Offshore Wind Farm in APAC
Ørsted announced today (25) that the 900 MW Greater Changhua 1 & 2a Offshore Wind Farm has been completed and fully connected to the Taipower grid, becoming the largest operational offshore wind farm in the Asia-Pacific region. This milestone doubles Taiwan's offshore wind power installation capacity and stimulates the local offshore wind power industry ecosystem.

France's solar photovoltaic industry has lagged behind in recent years. France is launching a large-scale revival of its solar energy industry to ensure energy independence, introducing multiple incentives. These include increasing the proportion of domestically manufactured solar panels to 40%, offering tax incentives, and implementing highway solar panel projects. France has also signed solar agreements with renewable energy developers and buyers to promote the solar panel ecosystem and market in France collectively.

Ørsted Releases Its Greater Changhua 1 & 2a Offshore Wind Farm Case Study: Generating Economic Value of NT$5.23 Trillion and Long-term Social Benefits
Ørsted today (24) released the "Greater Changhua 1 & 2a Offshore Wind Farm Case Study." This 900 MW offshore wind farm has generated NT$402 billions in industrial value for Taiwan over the past 6 years of development activities. When considering the subsequent "induced consumption" effects, it can create NT$523 billion in economic value, surpassing the annual output value of Taiwan's electric vehicle industry last year, which was NT$400 billion.

National Grid has proposed to build a substation, and a consultation on plans for a new clean energy substation has been launched. This new 400 kV substation is part of the Brinsworth to High Marnham project, which will also include upgrading existing overhead electricity lines, which will be an extension of a current site in Cock Alley, near Chesterfield, Derbyshire, to transport power generated from offshore wind.

The European Commission has approved the implementation of a three-level low-emission zone that prohibits the driving of petrol or diesel vehicles in the central area of Stockholm, which will be the first city in the world to ban the driving of gasoline and diesel vehicles in parts of the city center. The area includes nearly 20 blocks surrounded by major roads such as Kungsgatan, Birger Jarlsgatan, Hamngatan, and Sveavägen. Only electric vehicles and low-emission gas-fired vehicles are allowed to enter, while low-emission hybrid vehicles are allowed to drive during peak traffic hours. The new law will come into force on December 31 this year.
