The Ministry of Economic Affairs hosted the third Taiwan Offshore Wind Power Zonal Development Phase 2 selection briefing on the 17th. Iberdrola Taiwan emphasized that, from the perspectives of international climate initiatives, trends, and the urgent demand for green energy from Taiwanese businesses, a swift establishment of regulatory frameworks by the government is advantageous. This enables developers, system providers, and suppliers to formulate the most comprehensive plans for wind farm development, encompassing construction, financial, and sustainability considerations.

Kevin Liu, the General Manager at Iberdrola Renewables Taiwan, stated, "Iberdrola's Da Chung Bu wind farm recently passed the initial environmental impact assessment on July 26, securing its ticket to participate in next year's selection process. The Guo Feng offshore wind farm is also actively preparing for its second environmental impact assessment. Iberdrola Taiwan is committed to participating in Zonal Development Phase 2 selection."

The development of capital-intensive offshore wind farms globally has experienced a temporary slowdown or pause due to factors such as the pandemic, geopolitical influences, inflation, and rising interest rates. However, amidst these challenges, the United Kingdom and Taiwan persist in considering offshore wind power a crucial pillar of renewable energy. Consequently, they consistently introduce new proposals to attract pivotal developers for ongoing investments. Iberdrola, the world's second-largest electricity company by market value, continues substantial investments in renewable energy, including wind, solar, and hydroelectric power, and successfully concludes projects as scheduled this year. Leveraging Iberdrola Taiwan's rich construction experience, precise financial forecasting, risk management, and operational scheduling capabilities, the company aims to complete world-class wind farms according to the established timeline.

Regarding Taiwan's industry-related policies, Kevin Liu stated, "We believe that the localization of offshore wind power in Taiwan is feasible, but it must consider factors such as phased tasks, feasibility, and export competitiveness. Iberdrola looks forward to stably supporting Taiwan's offshore wind power supply chain under reasonable costs and attractive green electricity prices for both sellers and buyers, assisting Taiwanese enterprises in achieving their long-term carbon reduction goals."

In addition, Iberdrola suggests the release of the coordinate map for Zonal Development Phase 1 and the grid connection offshore point by the end of 2023. This measure aims to assist development units in offering more accurate wind field planning.
