S.Korean Youth Climate Organizations Calls for the 21st National Assembly to Pass the Special Act of Wind Power

The South Korean climate and youth organizations urged last week that the 21st National Assembly pass the " Special Act for Promotion of Wind Power Distribution " before the end of its term to demonstrate willingness to address the climate crisis.
The climate and youth organizations cited 3 reasons:
(1) With increasing conflicts among stakeholders over marine space usage, government-led planning and positioning systems are urgently needed.
(2) Concerned groups fear that if the legislation is abandoned now after prolonged social consultations, it may take several years to reach an agreement again.
(3) If the 21st National Assembly misses the legislative opportunity, South Korea's industrial competitiveness and energy transition will lag behind other countries.
All parties in South Korea, including the ruling and opposition parties, government departments, fishermen, and businesses, have reached a consensus on the necessity of the special law, and there is a considerable degree of social consensus. Despite active agreement on the necessity from all stakeholders, conflicts such as nomination and the Special Prosecutor Act are consuming other parliamentary agendas, and there is no dedicated subcommittee for the wind power special Act.
