Gogoro and Enel X join forces to accelerate Taiwan's energy transition with smart energy solutions
Gogoro, the global leader in battery swapping technology for sustainable urban mobility solutions, announced a groundbreaking partnership with Enel X , a leading innovative energy services and virtual power plant (VPP) provider, on 19th April 2023. The partnership involves the deployment of over 1,000 Gogoro Network battery swapping stations and the integration of 2,500 Gogoro scooters into Enel X's VPP in Taiwan, participating in Taiwan's power trading platform for ancillary services, and achieving the world's first commercial deployment of integrated virtual power plants with a battery swapping energy network, driving Taiwan's renewable energy transition. Gogoro and Enel X initiated a pilot test program for the virtual power plant in 2022, verifying that Gogoro Network battery swapping stations can safely reduce the load or feed energy back to the grid during grid imbalances. Once the grid is balanced, Enel X's virtual power plant will send instructions to Gogoro Network to resume normal operation. During load reduction and energy feeding, Gogoro Network battery-swapping stations can still provide battery-swapping services to consumers, making it the world's first successful case of commercial transformation using this technology. According to Taiwan Power Company's estimation, the future power-sharing economy opportunities will exceed billions of New Taiwan Dollars.
Horace Luke, Founder, and CEO of Gogoro said: "We are entering a new era of smart energy infrastructure, bringing innovative power resources to the Taiwan market through the integration of Gogoro Network and Enel X's virtual power plants. This is also the first time this technology has been commercially deployed globally, bringing new revenue sources beyond the mobility industry. We believe that time-shifting energy is the key to achieving sustainable transformation of energy and transportation, and Gogoro continues to play an important role in driving this innovative change, with every Gogoro user contributing to Taiwan's net zero transition."
Jeff Renaud, Head of Enel X Asia-Pacific, said: "Our partnership with Gogoro verifies that virtual power plants are a crucial driver for the renewable energy transition. The integration of new distributed energy resources accelerates electrification and decarbonization of energy use, and with these technologies, we can contribute to a greener future. We look forward to further collaboration with Gogoro and other partners to promote sustainable energy development in Taiwan and the Asia-Pacific region."
