SRE Remains Confident in Renewable Energy Prospects Despite Global Headwinds CDWE Partners to Advance Formosa 4
Despite current global challenges in the offshore wind sector, Synera Renewable Energy Group (SRE) remains confident in the long-term prospects of renewable energy.
Following steady progress in localizing the production of subsea foundations and wind turbine components for the Formosa 4 Offshore Wind Farm, the company today announced a new milestone—partnering with local maritime engineering supplier CSBC-DEME Wind Engineering (CDWE) to advance project construction. This collaboration further underscores SRE's commitment to driving Taiwan's energy transition and realizing the vision of sustainable development.
The Formosa 4 Offshore Wind Farm, awarded 495 MW during the first stage of Phase 3 Zonal Development in 2022, is now moving forward as planned. Under the agreement, CDWE will deploy its Taiwanese-flagged vessel Green Jade, a multipurpose heavy-lift construction ship with extensive operational experience in the Taiwan Strait. The vessel will serve as the main installation platform, undertaking three critical scopes of work—transportation and installation of offshore foundations and substations, as well as seabed rock installation—to ensure timely grid connection of the project.
In addition to CDWE, the Formosa 4 Offshore Wind Farm has also entered into contracts with several leading international offshore installation and transport providers, including Denmark's Cadeler, Germany's Seaway 7, and Belgium's Jan De Nul Group (JDN). By combining local and global expertise, the project is well-positioned to ensure successful delivery.
Commenting on the milestone, SRE Chairman Lucas Lin said: "The Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) noted in its annual report earlier this year that while offshore wind is facing temporary headwinds in some regions, the fundamentals remain strong and the mid-term outlook is robust. Offshore wind continues to be widely recognized as a key option to deliver large-scale, secure, and clean energy. We are delighted to collaborate with both local partners like CDWE and leading international groups on the Formosa 4 project. Its steady progress is highly significant, not only in meeting Taiwan's urgent green power demand for its strategic industries, but also in making a tangible contribution to environmental sustainability."
Sahand Holm, Project Director of SRE, remarked: "Amid the current tight global market for offshore construction resources, we are honored to have established constructive partnerships with both local and international teams. We look forward to leveraging each party's expertise to inject momentum into the Formosa 4 project and work together toward its successful completion."
The Formosa 4 is located off the coast of Miaoli and secured its establishment permit at the end of 2024, becoming the first project among its allocation round peers to achieve this critical milestone. Once completed, the project is expected to provide high-quality electricity to approximately 500,000 households.
