To cultivate next-generation talent in renewable energy and align with global education trends, the world's largest interdisciplinary hydrogen education initiative, the Hydrogen Grand Prix (H2GP), made its official debut in Taiwan this year. The inaugural Taiwan competition concluded in July, with CH2R from Chung Cheng Industrial High School emerging as the champion and earning the honor of representing Taiwan at the World Finals in Germany.

The World Finals brought together more than 50 teams from over 20 countries, competing across multiple divisions. Among them were 11 all-girls teams, exemplifying the spirit of Girls in STEM. Students, teachers, parents, and corporate sponsors from around the globe actively participated, creating an atmosphere of passion, collaboration, and unforgettable memories.

This year's World Finals took place in Chemnitz, Germany, the European Capital of Culture, spanning seven days of intensive competition. The event was co-organized with the city government, local universities, and the Fraunhofer research institute, featuring not only high-speed endurance races but also cross-cultural exchanges and hydrogen technology demonstrations, establishing a truly comprehensive international educational platform.

Kaohsiung Chung Cheng Industrial High School Secures 8th Place in Group Competition, Showcasing Resilience and Excellence

Despite facing multiple vehicle repair challenges during the competition, CH2R from Chung Cheng Industrial High School demonstrated remarkable resilience and teamwork. In the Stock Class, the team completed 619 laps on the second day of group races, securing 8th place (21st overall), a strong testament to the technical skills and collaborative spirit of Taiwanese students.

At the same time, National Kaohsiung University of Science and Technology (NKUST)—the organizer of the Taiwan regional event—was invited to participate in the world's first-ever Prototype Class competition, competing against six university teams and two experienced high school teams. NKUST delivered an impressive performance, completing 897 laps and achieving an outstanding 2nd place finish.

Looking ahead, the Prototype Class will become a permanent feature of the H2GP World Finals, providing a new stage for universities and veteran high school teams. The exceptional performances of the two Taiwanese teams this year not only demonstrated their capabilities but also marked a significant milestone in Taiwan's hydrogen education journey.

Connecting Education and Industry to Build a Strong Foundation for Hydrogen Talent

The H2GP Taiwan 2025 Grand Prix kicked off in March, beginning with seed teacher training and a three-month hydrogen education program. Through this initiative, students applied STEAM education principles to design and build 1:10 scale hydrogen-powered remote-controlled model cars from scratch. The Taiwan regional finals were held in July at the NKUST, where teams competed in a 4 to 6 hours endurance race. The competition tested not only the stability and performance of their vehicles but also the students' real-time problem-solving, strategic thinking, and teamwork—pushing their capabilities to the fullest.

Toby Collins, Head of New Energy at LienHwa Industrial Holdings Corp, commented: "We are truly excited to see Taiwan teams deliver such outstanding performances on the world stage. This international competition does more than sharpen students' engineering and problem-solving skills, it ignites their passion for learning and strengthens teamwork. H2GP has evolved beyond just a race; it is now a platform that bridges education, energy technology, and industry resources. We remain committed to supporting this initiative and building a strong foundation for Taiwan's next generation of hydrogen talent."

Through the Y.S. Educational Foundation, Lien Hwa Industrial Holdings Corp New Energy Initiatives, and its affiliated partners, the MiTAC-Synnex Group is proud to join like-minded sponsors in supporting such a meaningful international educational initiative. This commitment not only underscores the Group's dedication to a sustainable future but also reflects its responsibility to nurture the next generation of talent.
