Zhong Neng Wind Farm Achieves First Power Construction Progress on Track to Complete and Connect to Grid This Year
China Steel Power Corporation announced today that the first turbine of the Zhong Neng Offshore Wind Farm Project (Zhong Neng Wind Farm) has commenced power generation, marking a significant step towards the project's scheduled completion and grid connection this year.
The Zhong Neng Offshore Wind Farm, located off the coast of Changhua, has been allocated a capacity of 300 MW through a selection process by the Ministry of Economic Affairs. The wind farm, co-developed by China Steel Corporation and the Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), plans to install 31 Vestas V174-9.5MW offshore wind turbines. The transportation and installation of the turbines are contracted to CSBC-DEME Wind Engineering (CDWE) and Fred. Olsen Windcarrier. The Zhong Neng Wind Farm has completed nearly half of the turbine installations and aims to complete all offshore installations by the third quarter of this year.
Shyi-Chin Wang, Chairman of China Steel Power Corporation, stated that with the concerted efforts of shareholders China Steel Corporation (CSC) and CIP, as well as the Zhong Neng team and supplier partners, the manufacturing and installation of 31 underwater foundations have been successively completed. China Steel Power is committed to completing the construction of the wind farm on schedule, fulfilling not only the responsibilities to partners and financiers but also the commitment to Taiwan's energy transition. Many Taiwanese companies with a global market presence have joined the RE100 initiative and require substantial green electricity to maintain international competitiveness. Furthermore, as Taiwan becomes the core of the future AI industry chain, with the growing electricity demand from servers, semiconductors, and data centers, it is hoped that Zhong Neng's power generation can be swiftly connected to the grid to contribute its part.
Joris Hol, CEO of Zhong Neng Wind Project, expressed gratitude to all partners and teams for their hard work and contributions. Following the completion of the first turbine installation in May, maritime engineering has progressed smoothly, achieving the critical milestone of power generation in the first half of the year. This not only demonstrates the project's and partners' exceptional capabilities in project execution and technology but also reinforces our confidence in delivering the wind farm on schedule this year.
Marina Hsu, Regional President of CIP, stated that CIP is honored to have been selected by China Steel as a shareholder in the Zhong Neng Wind Farm in 2017. The seamless and trustful collaboration has fostered a deep bond between the companies. CIP is confident that Zhong Neng Offshore Wind Farm will connect to the grid in the third quarter of this year, becoming Taiwan's first wind farm to achieve early grid connection with the highest level of localization.
