2023 SOFT POWER at NCKU: 8 Female Leaders Share Life Stories with Students

National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) is organizing an event called "2023 SOFT POWER Flexible Advancement Female Leadership Talk on ESG" in partnership with the European Chamber of Commerce in Taiwan-Low Carbon Initiative (ECCT-LCI). The event will showcase 8 accomplished female leaders from various industries and focus on sustainable development.

Jennifer Wang, Managing Director of TÜV Rheinland - Taiwan, boasts over two decades of diverse international experience in sustainability. As the first female managing director of the company, she will share insights on her experiences in organizational restructuring, managing cultural diversity, and fostering innovation within the organization. In her words, "Reading can change your life. Through education, you can become the person you want to be."

Josephine Lo, Chairman of NestleTaiwan and the first Taiwan-born Chairman in 40 years, attributes the resilience of women to the powerful bond of motherhood. She believes that this energy can sustainably drive sustainability advocacy.

Irene Feng, an executive of Fresenius Medical Care - a century-old company and the world's leading provider of kidney dialysis services - will share her personal journey from being a front-line nurse to working in the biotech medical field. She emphasizes the importance of leading by example, both at work and in one's personal life, to consistently do the right thing.

Shu-Mei Chen, Director of Tainan City Government's Bureau of Land Administration, will discuss her transition from over 20 years in academia to public service, and her desire to give back to society through her acquired knowledge.

Amanda Lin, Creative Director of Women's March Taiwan and a member of Taipei City Youth Advisory Committee, will share the perspective of the United Nations' Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) and hopes to transfer international experience into practical action by contributing her personal knowledge through the youth advisory platform.

Tong tai Machine & Tool Co., Ltd, which is celebrating its 55th anniversary, has seen significant changes since the arrival of Vice President Lu Yan in 2011. With her marketing expertise and diverse background, Lu Yan has injected new ideas and fresh perspectives into the traditional company. One of her key messages is that courage, regardless of gender, is the most important quality for anyone looking to make a change. She encourages her colleagues to embrace new challenges and opportunities, asking "If not me, who? If not now, when?"

Rebecca Lee, Vice President of the Formosa International Hotels Group and General Manager of Tainan's Silks Hotel, emphasizes the importance of incorporating local culture into the hotel's brand and operations for a unique and memorable guest experience. To achieve this, the hotel offers local excursions and cuisine, and has collaborated with National Cheng Kung University to launch the "Forget Worry Pearl" product. Through this approach, the Silks Hotel team aims to showcase the best of Tainan in an engaging and creative manner while addressing any environmental challenges.

National Cheng Kung University Principal Hui-Zhen Su asserts that the era of comprehensive intelligence requires constant adaptation to shape the future. She expressed that through signing the "2023 Women's Leadership Sustainability Statement" and supporting women's actions. She hopes the university will stay on top of global developments and contribute to them through knowledge and technology, united in facing the challenges of the present.
