|Romania to Build World's First Carbon Neutral Tire Factory
Finnish tire manufacturer Nokian Tires plans to invest approximately 650 million euros to construct the world's first carbon-neutral tire factory in Oradea, western Romania. The entire facility will be powered by renewable energy, with steam generated during manufacturing production without using fossil fuels. Starting from 2025, it is projected to produce 6 million car and SUV tires annually. Romania currently derives around 24% of its energy from renewable sources, and the construction of this factory will contribute to furthering local green energy development.
|UK Announces Plans for New Natural Gas Power Plant Construction
The UK government has announced plans to construct new natural gas power plants to ensure a stable energy supply and achieve net zero goals, aiming to reduce reliance on foreign dictators. The UK is the only major economy to halve its carbon emissions since 1990. However, some experts express concerns that this initiative might deter green energy investors and potentially jeopardize UK energy security by contradicting commitments to achieve zero-carbon electricity generation by 2035.
|CWA Partners with the NMMST to Promote Marine and Ocean Meteorology Education
The Ministry of Environment, through the Central Weather Administration (CWA), has signed a memorandum of cooperation with the National Museum of Marine Science and Technology (NMMST) to transform research findings into museum exhibits and educational materials, promoting marine and ocean meteorology education. The collaboration stems from the introduction of the Science On a Sphere (SOS), with both parties collaborating on SOS tours and educational outreach to broaden the horizons of young learners and enhance their understanding of marine science.
