The 2025 Bowei Research Conference concluded successfully on January 5, underscoring LCY Group and the unwavering support of Mr. Bowei Lee and Mrs. Saifen Yang for fostering scientific exchange and international collaboration. This year's conference, hosted by the LCY Education Foundation, was meticulously organized by the Scientific Advisory Committee on Alternative Toxicological Methods (SACATM), led by Professor Ehud Keinan, President of the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC). Through rigorous thematic design and speaker selection, the forum convened leading international scientists and young scholars from across the globe, advancing interdisciplinary collaboration, promoting innovative research, and deepening the practical impact of biochemistry and chemical biology as a critical incubator for scientific innovation and sustainable development.
During his opening remarks at the forum, Bowei Lee, President of LCY Group, stated: "The Bowei Research Conference is an exceptional academic platform designed for the next generation of elites in chemical biology. It not only drives breakthroughs in fundamental research but also provides guidance for the sustainable development of the biotechnology industry. As global demand for innovative and sustainable solutions continues to rise, the forum fosters interaction and collaboration among scholars worldwide, injecting robust momentum into the intersection of chemistry and life sciences."
Lee also announced that the 2026 Bowei Research Conference will feature both winter and summer sessions. The summer session will focus on cutting-edge fields such as artificial intelligence and neuroscience, exploring how the convergence of science and technology can reshape industrial structures and transform lifestyles. This further solidifies the forum's status as a premier international scientific event.
This year's Bowei Research Conference, themed "The Magic of Chemistry," spotlighted “Frontiers in Chemical Biology – The Chemistry of Life," exploring the structure and function of biomolecules and their roles in biological processes. The forum covered a range of advanced topics, including directed evolution, protein engineering, and biocatalysis. It attracted 113 top-tier scientists from 6 regions: Japan, the United States, Germany, Israel, the United Kingdom, and Taiwan. The presence of two Nobel Laureates—Aaron Ciechanover (ubiquitin-proteasome system) and Frances H. Arnold (protein engineering)—added extraordinary academic depth and global influence to the event. Arnold, a pioneer in genetic programming technologies, also serves on the boards of Illumina and Alphabet, Google's parent company.
The forum featured 13 keynote speakers who delved into the pivotal role of innovation and application in chemical biology, including the latest advancements in protein technologies and drug discovery, inspiring innovative ideas among participants. Additionally, the conference incorporated a classic tradition of scientific meetings—poster presentations—offering young scientists a platform to showcase their work and engage with seasoned experts, highlighting the academic collaboration central to the forum.
Professor Ehud Keinan, Chair of the Scientific Advisory Committee and President of IUPAC, remarked during his speech: "The Bowei Research Conference provides a transformative platform for scientists worldwide, where revolutionary ideas, technologies, and methodologies can take root. It bridges foundational research and practical applications in biological and medicinal chemistry, deepening collaborations among scientists and significantly contributing to contemporary scientific development."
Professor Keinan further emphasized that the Bowei Research Conference has become an internationally influential academic event, drawing experts and scholars from diverse backgrounds to address global scientific challenges. By hosting the forum in serene, off-the-beaten-path locations, the conference fosters an informal, open environment for brainstorming and scholarly exchange. This unique setting encourages participants to break down barriers, engage deeply, and spark innovative ideas, creating the forum’s distinctive charm. Professor Keinan highlighted the profound value of interdisciplinary and cross-cultural collaboration in advancing scientific progress and expressed hope that the Bowei Research Conference will continue to drive innovation in biotechnology.
Since its inception in 2018, supported by LCY Group, the Bowei Research Conference has become a global platform for integrating cutting-edge ideas and collaborative innovation. Guided by the expertise and extensive experience of the Scientific Advisory Committee, the forum has attracted over 620 participants, 77 distinguished scholars and scientists, and support from more than 25 leading international institutions, cementing its leadership and influence in the global academic and scientific communities. Looking ahead, the Bowei Research Conference aims to further expand its global impact, inspire more interdisciplinary collaborations, and provide innovative solutions to address significant scientific and technological challenges worldwide.
