On June 18, Cisco Systems announced the establishment of the "AIoT Sustainable Innovation R&D Center" in Kaohsiung's Asia New Bay Area. Partnering with over 20 ecosystem companies, Cisco aims to create an international smart harbor, integrating AI and IoT technologies to enhance port efficiency and safety, reduce electricity and energy costs, and lower carbon emissions.

This initiative involves a total investment of NT$1.2 billion and is expected to generate an additional NT$2.7 billion in investments, driving Taiwan's electric vehicle industry's value to exceed NT$60 billion. This is the first R&D center established in Taiwan by a major European chip manufacturer, highlighting Taiwan's rising influence in the semiconductor and automotive chip sectors.

President Lai Announce the Establishment of 3 Committees at the Presidential Office and Holds Press Conference to Mark First Month in Office
On the morning of June 19, President Lai Ching-te held a press conference marking his first month in office titled "Building Trust through Policy Initiatives: A New Taiwan for an Era of Innovation" to announce the establishment of 3 committees at the Presidential Office: the National Climate Change Response Committee, National Whole-of-Society Resilience Committee, and Healthy Taiwan Promotion Committee. In remarks, President Lai noted that the goal of the committees is to develop national strategies, engage in dialogue with civil society, deepen cooperation with the international community, and take action for Taiwan's future.

Jensen Huang, CEO of NVIDIA, recently announced the establishment of an advanced computing center there. During the "2024 Taipower Scholarship Awards Ceremony" in Kaohsiung. Tseng Wen-Sheng, Chairman of Taipower, responded to media inquiries about several tech giants moving to the southern region. Tseng stated that power supply from the south to the north is a reality. Southern Taiwan has ample power resources, including traditional and renewable energy sources like solar. Tseng welcomed tech giants setting up near power sources, noting it would create a more balanced, stable, and efficient power grid.

Deutsche Energy Terminal (DET), Germany's state-owned operator of four terminals, is moving forward with its second liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal in Wilhelmshaven. To this end, Norway's technology company ECOnnect Energy has been hired to install a jettyless ready IQuay solution for LNG import to Wilhelmshaven. ECOnnect Energy has tapped France's marine contractor GEOCEAN for subsea installation work.

The Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) today (17th) announced that the Fengmiao Offshore Wind Farm Phase 3-1 has signed contracts with Century Wind Power and CSBC-DEME Wind Engineering Co., Ltd. (CDWE) for the supply, transportation, and installation of foundations. This marks the first final contract for foundations in the Phase 3-1 wind farm.

GSMMA Releases Latest Subsea Geological Information for Offshore Wind Farms in Penghu, Changhua Coastal Park, and Hsinchu-Miaoli Area
The Taiwanese government is committed to the transition of energy and the acceleration of offshore wind development as part of its green energy initiative. The Geological Survey and Mining Management Agency, MOEA (GSMMA), has completed regional-scale subsurface geological surveys in the vicinity of Penghu, Changhua Coastal Park, and the nearshore area of Hsinchu-Miaoli for offshore wind farm development.
