The European Commission recently approved the third Important Projects of Common European Interest (IPCEI) proposed by seven member states, including Italy, allocating nearly €7 billion to support projects within their jurisdiction. These funds aim to enhance hydrogen production capacity, reduce dependence on natural gas, and contribute to the goals of the European Green Deal, including infrastructure development. Private investments totaling €54 billion are expected to be stimulated.

2024 Taiwan International Geothermal Conference Connecting Taiwan with the World to Unveil Geothermal Potential
The Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) commenced the two-day "2024 Taiwan International Geothermal Conference" yesterday. Renowned figures from the geothermal development sectors of the United States, the United Kingdom, Sweden, Italy, Japan, and New Zealand were invited as speakers to share insights on advanced geothermal development technologies, power plant development, and project management experiences. The forum, conducted through physical meetings and online live broadcasts, attracted over 47 foreign companies and more than 600 representatives from domestic industries, government, academia, and research institutes. The hosting of this international geothermal forum aims to accelerate Taiwan's geothermal development and enhance Taiwan's visibility in international green energy development.

Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Trade and Industry, Chen Jianlong, and Minister of the Coordinating Ministry of Maritime Affairs, Jodi Mahardi, recently represented both countries in signing an Letter of Intent (LOI) for cross-border carbon capture and storage. Government officials from both countries will establish a working group aimed at eventually signing a legally binding bilateral agreement to achieve cross-border transportation and storage of carbon dioxide between Singapore and Indonesia.

According to the Korea Economic Daily, six domestic banks jointly invested in establishing a climate response fund worth approximately 1.2 trillion Korean won. The fund is primarily intended for investment in offshore wind power, excluding solar power, which had been a contentious issue during Mun Jae-In's administration.

In support of the Biden-Harris administration's goals for deploying 30 gigawatts (GW) of offshore wind energy capacity by 2030 and 15 GW of floating offshore wind energy capacity by 2035, the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) announced the designation of two final Wind Energy Areas (WEAs) offshore Oregon. The WEAs were developed following extensive engagement and feedback from the state, Tribes, local residents, ocean users, federal government partners, and other members of the public. The final WEAs are based on reducing potential conflicts of ocean users, particularly on commercial fishing.

Aker Solutions secures FEED contract for CIP 1GW Haewoori Offshore Wind project
Aker Solutions has been awarded a front-end engineering and design contract for Haewoori Offshore Wind 2 (500MW) and 3 (500MW), Copenhagen Infrastructure Partner's floating offshore wind projects off the coast of Ulsan, Korea. Work will start immediately on the FEED and is due to be completed by November 2024.

OMNI Features|Saudi Arabia and Greece Form SPV for Interconnection Project / Siemens Gamesa Awards First SOV Contract in Asia to Cyan Renewables / Germany Researchers Create Green Steel From Toxic Red Mud
Saudia Arabia and Greece established a special purpose vehicle (SPV), Saudi Greek Interconnection, to lead the feasibility study for the two countries' electricity interconnection. In a statement, Greece's Independent Power Transmission Operator (IPTO) and Saudi Arabia's National Grid said they will both hold a 50% stake in Saudi Greek Interconnection. The special purpose firm will be overseen by the markets' respective energy ministries.
