Getting Closer to a Carbon-Free Future: Google's Largest Offshore Wind Projects to Date
Google announce that its Power Purchase Agreements (PPA) for more than 700 MW of clean energy — including its largest offshore wind projects to date in The Netherlands. As a result, over the next couple of years, the company's operations are projected to reach more than 90% carbon-free energy in The Netherlands, Italy and Poland, and close to 85% in Belgium.

According to a South Korea government official on Tuesday, South Korea has slammed the brakes on BlackRock's offshore wind farm project worth around 10 trillion won ($7.5 billion), citing financing uncertainty and an insufficient transmission network for what was set to be the country's largest wind power complex.

Saudi Arabian Oil Company (Aramco) announced on the 30th that the Saudi government has instructed it to maintain its production capacity at the current 12 million barrels per day, abandoning the original plan to reach 13 million barrels per day by 2027. This signifies a temporary halt to the initial capacity increase plan. Furthermore, Aramco has committed to achieving "operational net-zero" by 2050, encompassing only carbon emissions from its facilities and excluding CO2 generated by customer vehicles, power plants, and furnaces burning Saudi oil.

This represents a substantial increase from the 2022 figures, which accounted for 965 projects and a total capacity of 80,396.61 MW.

Ørsted Greater Changhua Offshore Wind Farm Achieves Carbon Reduction of 830,000 Metric Tons
Ørsted announced today (30) that the 900 MW Greater Changhua 1 and 2a offshore wind farms has generated clean electricity equivalent to reducing 830,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions since the first turbine was connected to the grid in April 2022. This amount is comparable to the carbon reduction amount of more than 6,400 Daan Forest Parks, highlighting the substantial contribution of large-scale offshore wind farms to achieving net-zero carbon goals.
