To help Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) purchase green power and achieve their net-zero goals, the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) has launched the "Affordable Green Power Program for SMEs."

Under this initiative, 30% of the green electricity generated from photovoltaic projects in the Changhua Coastal Industrial Park will be allocated for SMEs use. Approximately 36 MW of capacity, equivalent to 45 million kWh of green electricity, will be released for public bidding through the National Renewable Energy Certification Center (T-REC) platform operated by the Bureau of Standards, Metrology and Inspection (BSMI). The electricity will be exclusively available for SMEs to purchase and fulfill their green energy requirements.

The MOEA stated that, to enable more SMEs to access green power, the maximum bidding volume for each SME will be capped at 30% of its total electricity consumption in the previous year. In addition, the power purchase agreement (PPA) term will be set at five years, ensuring that SMEs can secure a stable supply of green electricity during this period without being affected by market price fluctuations.

The MOEA further explained that the T-REC's platform will provide bidding and matching services for this project, ensuring a transparent process and convenient participation. To help SMEs better understand the project details and operating procedures, the BSMI will hold project briefing sessions in northern, central, and southern Taiwan from October to November.

Starting November 19, the BSMI will successively conduct pre-registration for purchase eligibility and demand, followed by open bidding and award procedures. The MOEA encourages SMEs to take this opportunity and actively participate.

The MOEA emphasized that this project will significantly lower the entry barrier for SMEs to access the green electricity market, addressing the challenges many SMEs face due to their industrial characteristics and smaller purchasing scales, which often limit their ability to procure renewable energy. The initiative is expected to create new opportunities for sustainable business development among SMEs.
