HDRE Announces Further Expansion in Australia with 111MW Energy Storage Project Set for August Launch
On May 8, international smart energy leader HD Renewable Energy (HDRE) convened a board meeting and approved an investment of approximately NT$160 million (AUD 8 million) by its Australian asset platform, ZEBRE, to acquire the under-construction Templers battery energy storage system in South Australia. With an installed capacity of 111 MW (battery rated capacity of 330 MWh), the project will become the second-largest energy storage site in South Australia once operational, further solidifying HDRE’s foundation in the Australian electricity market.

A fatal accident involving an onshore wind turbine occurred on May 2 in Akita Prefecture, Japan. An 81-year-old man was found lying unconscious approximately one meter from a fallen turbine blade and was later pronounced dead at the hospital. The turbine, operated by a Tokyo-based company, is equipped with three blades, each measuring 41 meters in length and mounted approximately 80 meters above ground.

Formosa 2 Offshore Wind Farm Participates in Baishatun Mazu Pilgrimage to Pray for Favorable Weather and Deepen Local Connections
Located off the coast of Miaoli, Formosa 2 Offshore Wind Farm is the first project under Taiwan’s second phase of offshore wind development to reach commercial operation. Since September 2023, it has been steadily supplying clean, green electricity to 380,000 households in Taiwan. With a total installed capacity of 376 MW and an annual generation of over 1,300 GWh, it helps reduce carbon emissions by 645,000 metric tons per year, marking a significant milestone in Taiwan’s renewable energy journey.

Chang Hwa Bank Backs Taiwan's Energy Transition, Serves as Credit Guarantee Manager for CIP Fengmiao NT$103 Billion Offshore Wind Financing
Chang Hwa Bank has reaffirmed its commitment to Taiwan's energy transition policies by participating in a NT$103.0 billion, 20-year syndicated loan for the "Fengmiao Offshore Wind Power Project," developed by Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP). Acting as the managing bank for the National Credit Guarantee, Chang Hwa Bank will help de-risk the transaction for participating lenders and bolster the island's renewable energy development, in line with the National Development Council's sustainability roadmap and Taiwan's broader sustainable finance agenda.

Geothermal Project Applications Must Adhere to Indigenous Peoples Basic Law MOEA Affirms Commitment to Local Right-to-Know
The Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) stated that, to protect the rights of Indigenous communities during geothermal exploration and development, the Renewable Energy Development Act and the Geothermal Exploration Development Permit and Management Regulation clearly stipulate that any application for geothermal exploration or development permits involving Indigenous lands or public lands within a certain vicinity of Indigenous communities must comply with Article 21 of the Indigenous Peoples Basic Law. Relevant supporting documents must be submitted to prove compliance.

Most employees at the Odense Port base will be affected.
