Global Wind Giants Include Equinor Exit South Korea as Costs Soar and Permits Stall
Global offshore wind developers are increasingly scaling back or exiting South Korea as rising costs, financing challenges, and complex regulatory requirements undermine project viability. Norway's Equinor recently decided to halt its 750 MW Firefly (Bandibuli) floating offshore wind farm off Ulsan (울산 반딧불 부유식 해상풍력 발전소, 반딧불부유식해상풍력) , a project valued at approximately KRW 6 trillion and regarded as the world's largest single floating offshore wind farm.

Executive Yuan: Taiwan Classified Among Lower-Risk Economies in U.S. Section 301 Forced Labor Import Investigation
The Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) announced on June 3 that, according to the findings of the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) under its Section 301 investigation concerning import prohibitions on goods produced with forced labor, Taiwan has been designated as one of 14 economies assessed as presenting a relatively lower level of risk. As a result, the USTR has proposed an additional 10% tariff on Taiwan, compared with the proposed 12.5% tariff on other economies.

Taipower's Electricity Carbon Emission Factor Drops to 0.467 kg CO₂e/kWh; MOEA Reports Progress in Energy Transition
The Energy Administration under the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) announced on June 2 that the 2025 electricity carbon emission factor for public electricity retailers has decreased to 0.467 kg CO₂e/kWh, representing a 1.5% reduction from 2024 and an overall decline of approximately 12% compared with 2016.

After extensive preparations by domestic industries in the fields of marine engineering, photovoltaics, energy storage, hydrogen energy, and power grids, the Taiwan Offshore Floating Solar Energy Industry Association held its inaugural meeting on June 13. The meeting elected Ji-Xu Dong, Chairman of Sun Rise E&T Corporation (SUN RISE), as the association's first president. HDRE Posts May Revenue of NT$586 Million Marking 171.9% Year-on-Year Growth
Smart energy leader HD Renewable Energy (HDRE) announced its consolidated revenue for May 2025, reaching NTD 586 million for the month. This represents a 12.28% decrease compared to April, but a significant 171.90% increase compared to the same period last year. As of the end of May, cumulative revenue for 2025 totaled NTD 2.721 billion, reflecting a year-on-year growth of 117.83%.
