Portuguese Amazon and Spanish Iberdrola have secured their inaugural power purchase agreements (PPAs), adding a total installed capacity of 476 MW and spanning five countries. In this arrangement, Amazon in Portugal secured its first PPA from the Tâmega wind complex (219 MW), while the partnership expanded into Spain with an additional 257 MW of utility-scale solar and wind PPAs. Collectively, the three projects are expected to generate approximately 1,093 GWh of carbon-free electricity annually, which is sufficient to power around 300,000 households.

640 MW Yunlin Offshore Wind Farm Officially Commences Commercial Operation - All 80 Turbines Successfully Connected to the Grid
Skyborn Renewables and its partners in Yunneng Wind Power Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Yunneng") announced today (3rd) that the 640 MW Yunlin Offshore Wind Farm has officially commenced full commercial operation. All 80 wind turbines have been successfully installed and connected to the grid, supplying electricity to households and businesses in Taiwan. This milestone marks a significant achievement in Taiwan's offshore wind power and renewable energy industries, paving the way for a sustainable energy future. Yunneng was jointly established and funded by Skyborn Renewables (Skyborn), TotalEnergies, Thailand's Independent Power Producer EGCO Group, and Japan's Sojitz Corporation, responsible for the development and operation of the Yunlin Offshore Wind Farm.

The U.S. Government Suspends All Offshore Wind Leasing on the Outer Continental Shelf and Reviews Federal Leasing and Permitting Policies
To protect marine ecosystems, support a sustainable energy economy, and safeguard the public interest, the U.S. government will suspend all offshore wind energy leasing on the Outer Continental Shelf under the Outer Continental Shelf Lands Act, effective today on January 21, 2025. This suspension prohibits new leases and renewals, preserving only existing lease rights. Relevant agencies will conduct a comprehensive review of ecological impacts, energy costs, fisheries disruption, navigation safety, and national security, and will submit recommendations to the President on whether to amend or terminate existing leases.

In the first 11 months of last year, spending on transmission surged 19% to 529 billion yuan, outpacing the 12% growth in new power generation capacity investments. State Grid Corp. plans to increase spending to over 650 billion yuan by 2025, while China Southern Power Grid aims to boost network upgrade investments by more than 50% by 2027.

Executive Yuan Approves Amendments to the "Electricity Act" Drafted by the Ministry of Economic Affairs
To address a future energy structure dominated by renewable energy and a more dynamic electricity trading model, the Executive Yuan approved the Ministry of Economic Affairs' proposed amendments to certain provisions of the Electricity Act on the 9th. These amendments will allow Taipower to integrate generation, transmission, distribution, and retail resources while maintaining its current operational model. The changes also aim to invigorate green energy trading and incorporate emerging electricity resources such as grid-connected energy storage and demand response into the regulatory framework, guiding industry investment in potential power resources.

CDWE and CIP Renew Partnership: Contract Signed for Fengmiao Offshore Wind Farm Foundation and Substation Installation
CSBC-DEME Wind Engineering Co., Ltd. (CDWE), a subsidiary of CSBC Corporation Taiwan (hereafter referred to as CSBC Taiwan), has further strengthened its collaboration with Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP). Building on the successful partnerships established during the Changfang & Xidao and Zhong Neng Offshore Wind Farms, CDWE recently signed an additional contract for the transportation and installation of underwater foundations and offshore substations for the Fengmiao 1 Offshore Wind Farm.
