CPC Corporation, Taiwan (CPC) held a certification ceremony today (16th) for the ISCC CORSIA (International Sustainability & Carbon Certification - Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation) and ISCC EU standards. CPC is the first oil company in Taiwan to achieve ICAO-compliant certification for the supply and sale of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) with measurable carbon reduction benefits. This milestone underscores Taiwan's significant role in the global green aviation value chain.

National Energy Storage System Technology Center Launches to Lead Safety Testing and Strengthen Energy Security
The Bureau of Standards, Metrology, and Inspection (BSMI) of the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) held the grand opening of the "National Center for Energy Storage System Technology" on December 16, 2024, at the Hsinchu Tongluo Science Parks. This facility is set to become the largest energy storage system safety testing laboratory in Taiwan. It features fully equipped laboratories capable of conducting fire resistance, combustion, vibration, and environmental tests. With a testing capacity of 360 kW/360 kWh, it is recognized as one of the most advanced energy storage safety testing facilities in the world.

OGSMMA Held "Geothermal in Progress—2024 Forum on Deep Geothermal Potential Exploration" Unveiling Deep Geothermal Potential
To accelerate the development of geothermal energy in Taiwan, the Organization Act of the Geological Survey and Mining Management Agency, MOEA (OGSMMA) held the "Geothermal in Progress—2024 Forum on Deep Geothermal Potential Exploration" on December 17, 2024, at the Howard Civil Service International House. This forum showcased the most comprehensive achievements to date in domestic geothermal exploration practices. Notably, OGSMMA and the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) introduced a collaboration with a Turkish drilling company, marking a milestone in Taiwan's geothermal history. Together, they successfully conducted deep-drilling operations exceeding 2,000 meters—equivalent to the combined height of four Taipei 101 skyscrapers—achieving complete core sampling of continuous rock sections for the first time.

The business – part of Gamesa Electric – designs and manufactures converters, inverters and control cabinets for wind, solar and storage industries. The generators business of Gamesa Electric is not included in the agreement and remains with Siemens Gamesa.

Flexible Energy Transition Gets Boost as Over 58 Nations Back Global Storage and Grids Targets
The COP29 Global Energy Storage and Grids Pledge has gained the support of 58 countries, including major players from all continents like Brazil, Kenya, India, the USA, Ukraine, Pakistan, Morocco, Uruguay, Congo, Peru, Venezuela, Malaysia, Korea, Singapore, New Zealand, numerous European countries, and dozens of organisations. These signatories are taking the lead in implementing the ambitious target of tripling renewables agreed at COP28, with action-oriented goals for grids and storage set by the COP29 Presidency: deploying 1,500 GW of energy storage, doubling global grid investments, and developing 25 million kilometres of grid infrastructure by 2030.

Linde LienHwa Signs Long-Term Agreement to Supply Gases for Taiwan's Advanced Semiconductor Packaging Plant
Taiwan's industrial gas supplier, Linde LienHwa Industrial Gases Co., Ltd. (Linde LienHwa), has announced the signing of a long-term supply agreement with a prominent semiconductor manufacturer. The agreement ensures the provision of electronic gases to the manufacturer’s new advanced packaging facility in Chiayi, Taiwan. Linde LienHwa will invest approximately TWD 6.2 billion (USD 190 million) in this project, which is slated to commence operations in August 2025.

Ørsted brings in Cathay Life Insurance as investor in Greater Changhua 4 Offshore Wind Farm
Ørsted announced that it has signed an agreement with Taiwan's largest insurance company, Cathay Life Insurance Co., Ltd. Under the agreement, Cathay Life Insurance and its subsidiary, Cathay Wind Power Holdings, will acquire a 50% stake in the 583 MW Greater Changhua 4 Offshore Wind Farm. Ørsted will retain the remaining 50% ownership of the wind farm. This investment represents the largest offshore wind farm investment to date by a Taiwanese life insurance company, marking a historic milestone for Taiwan's offshore wind sector.

bp and JERA Co., Inc. will form JERA Nex bp, a joint venture poised to become one of the largest global offshore wind power developers. The new entity combines operating assets and development projects, with a potential net generating capacity of 13 GW. Backed by $5.8 billion in funding through 2030, JERA Nex bp aims to expedite project development, optimize portfolios, and secure competitive financing. It will initially focus on projects in North-West Europe, Australia, and Japan while nurturing longer-term opportunities globally.
